If you book your train ticket online till september 2017 you will not have to pay service charge on your booked tickets . Irctc said that The deadline for service charge exhausted on June 30, which Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has raised once again. This will save upto Rs 40 per ticket .

Service tax for booking tickets is from Rs. 20 to Rs. 40 per ticket. The government initially withdrew the service charge from 23 November 2016 to 31 March 2017. Later t was done on June 30. An official of the Railway Ministry told moneybhaskar.com that this service has been extended till the end of September
Maybe 500 Million Loses
The government has decided to increase service charge rebate to promote digital payments. IRCTC may lose Rs 500 crore this year due to this exemption .
